Walden Spirit Girls FC was formed in 2002 after it was decided to provide a Girls Football Club, which was independently run. Having previously been part of Saffron Walden Town F.C. youth coaching programme we felt girls football in the area would be better served if the girls had their own club. This enables us to be dedicated to promoting and improving girls football and to channel all money paid into the club towards providing the best equipment and facilities available for the girls.
Since 2002 we have progressed from a club which started to play friendlies to having two teams entered into the Cambridgeshire Girls League for the 2007-2008 season as well as a team playing friendlies in preparation for entering he league. The Under 14s and Under 13s/12s are playing their third season in the league and the Under 11 team have joined them for their first season playing friendlies.
The club relies on volunteers to coach, manage the teams, run the committee and support the training sessions, matches and other events held by the club. All the volunteers directly involved with the players have been CRB checked by the FA and have Enhanced disclosures. We have a Child Welfare Officer who is available to speak to the children and any parent/carer who has any queries or concerns.
We have a Child Protection Policy Statement and we have club/parent/player code of conducts, which we ask all parents/carers and players to sign. All club officials are asked to sign this document to confirm their commitment to providing the best possible environment in which the girls will train and play their football. This has been drawn up to comply with FA regulations and to ensure all parents/carers/players and club officials maintain the highest standards of care and coaching possible to every player at the club.
The club acheived Charter Standard Status in May 2006.
What is the best way to settle a cup tie that is level after normal time?
Extra time, then penalties
Straight to penalties
Golden goal extra time, then penalties
Golden goal all the way, removing one player from each team at regular intervals
Extra time, then shootout - players start on halfway and have 15 seconds to shoot
Might as well just toss a coin!
